BACHELOR GIRL’S TANIA DOKO TO HOST THE 2024 GOLD COAST MUSIC AWARDS

The excitement surrounding the 2024 Gold Coast Music Awards (GCMAs) continues to build with ARIA Award winning and now, proud Gold Coaster, Tania Doko announced as the co-host of this year’s prestigious Awards at HOTA, Home of the Arts, on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

As one half of ARIA award winning, much-loved duo Bachelor Girl, Tania Doko has enjoyed much success with James Roche. In 1998 their debut “Buses and Trains” became an Australian and international smash, making a huge mark in the U.S, via legendary A&R Clive Davis of Arista Records. According to APRA, it boasts one of the most played Australian compositions on Australian radio over the last 25 years. Their revered debut album ‘WAITING FOR THE DAY’ spawned 5 hit singles, and can be heard on high rotation radio in Australia still today.

Back for its tenth year in 2024, Tania will co-host the awards with Triple M’s Network Music Director, Andrew Very, in a partnership that see’s 92.5 Triple M GOLD elevate the awards and the finalists, in a partnership that see’s 92.5 Triple M GOLD elevate the awards and the finalists.

Tania says  “As a now virtual Queenslander newly relocated in the neighbourhood, I’m chuffed to be given the co-hosting role at the Gold Coast Music Awards alongside Triple M’s awesome Andrew Very. I’m extremely passionate about supporting talent and giving well-earned acknowledgment to local Queensland creatives for their exceptional talent, blood, sweat and tears in this exciting but tough industry.”

The sheer size and visibility of this ‘coming together’ event serves to inspire more emerging artists to keep pursuing their calling and careers in music, in turn positively contributing to venues and the fast growing GC music community at large. As songwriter and vocalist, Tania has proven her mark globally, particularly during her relocation to Sweden as a songwriter for hire. She featured and has co-written with artists including The Veronicas on ‘DON’T SAY GOODBYE’, ‘JOYRIDE’ for the U.S Disney film ‘STEP UP 3’, Taylor Dayne’s Club U.S Billboard no.7 hit single ‘FLOOR ON FIRE’, ‘WHAT YOU’VE DONE TO ME’ for Samantha Jade, (hitting no.1 and four times platinum), ‘RISK IT’ for Jessica Mauboy, and co-wrote/contributed backing vocals on Tina Arena’s ‘LOVE SAVES’ album, entering no.1 on the ARIA Australian album chart.  She has also co-penned hits for Aussie trio Sheppard, various KPop/JPop stars and performed original works live to LGBTQI audiences from Manchester Pride to Sydney’s Mardi Gras. In 2022, Tania won a coveted Australian Women in Music (AWMA) Songwriter award, acknowledging all her written works.

Tania has also taken on roles in TV, radio and theatre worlds, including being a mentor on Channel 7’s ‘Popstars’, a casting in Tim Rice’s Musical Spectacular (alongside Kate Ceberano, INXS, Anthony Warlow) and an Edinburgh Fringe Festival residency for her part in ’Seriously. The Pet Shop Boys Reinterpreted”.

Reigniting her career as a solo artist, Tania participated in SBS’s ‘Eurovision-Australia Decides’ in 2019 with more of her acclaimed pop writing in ‘PIECE OF ME’ Upon returning to Australia with her Swedish husband and son, Doko released her much awaited solo EP ‘THE BEAUTY IS IN THE BROKEN’ (2023), produced by Swedish artist/producer Mattias Lindblom. Her hypnotic single ‘HARDER NOW’ hit a no.7 AIR chart release and was widely embraced by industry and fans alike. Bachelor Girl has also reinstated itself on the Oz festival circuit(regular bookings on festivals such as ‘Day On the Green’ & ‘Red Hot Summer’). Currently a new BG album is in the works, to be released in 2025.

In between her passions for Bachelor Girl, solo career, her APRA ambassador role, songwriting for outside artists and live performing, with a degree in Psychology/Criminology and background in youth work to boot, Tania is committed to mentoring emerging artists; helping creatives maximise their voice and opportunities in a complex, modern music industry.

ABOUT ANDREW VERY

Andrew Very has been in the radio industry for over 25 years as an Announcer, Music Director and Program Director in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Newcastle and the Gold Coast. His love for radio was driven from a passion of loving and celebrating music. Andrew’s current role is heading up National Music Projects for the Triple M network based here on the Gold Coast. “We take pride in supporting Australian Music from new talent through to the stalwarts who’ve shaped the Aussie music landscape”.
