  • Wildheart have received the highest number of finalist nods, named as finalists across five categories. Relative newcomers to the music scene, this is the first year they have been named as finalists in the Gold Coast Music Awards. They are fronted by proud Yugambeh man, vocalist Axel Best and their music carries strong social justice messages.
  • Casey Barnes and Eliza and the Delusionals, both stalwarts of the Gold Coast Music Awards have both been named finalists across 4 categories.
  • Casey Barnes has been named a finalist in the awards every year since the Award’s inception in 2015. Having won Artist of the Year the previous two years, if Casey wins this year, he will automatically be added to the Gold Coast Music Award’s Hall of Fame.
  • Other notable nominees, who’ve been named finalists across a number of categories: SOFIA ISELLA (3), Chutney (3) and Lily Papas (3) – Lily is playing at the Awards After-Party

Chloe Popa, Co-Founder of the Awards says

“We were overwhelmed by the number of Award nominations we received this year, a total of 686. That number of nominations equates to several days worth of non-stop listening for the judging panel. It’s incredible to think that that is just a small portion of the music being produced on the Gold Coast each year.”

“We’re always excited to see new nominees added to the mix each year and 2022 did not disappoint. There is a very strong contingent of emerging artists and new talent making waves on the Gold Coast right now. The finalists reflect a good balance of rising stars as well as musicians who are already recognisable on the national

and international stage such as Casey Barnes, Tijuana Cartel, Hussy Hicks, Eliza and the Delusionals and Hollow Coves.”

“Recognition of those working behind the scenes has been a real focus for the Awards this year with the introduction of two new categories for Studio Producer and Visual Creative. The ten finalists named across these categories hold an impressive list
of achievements between them and we’re looking forward to shining a light on the work they are doing in the industry.”

The Gold Coast Music Awards is excited to be partnering with the Gold Coast’s newest free music festival SPRINGTIME.

Held on the Surfers Paradise beachfront, SPRINGTIME is a three-day celebration of the best homegrown and national artists in leftfield alternative, electronic and hip hop.

Festival Director Mark Duckworth said the SPRINGTIME team can’t wait to bring in spring with a fresh and fun new festival experience.

The Gold Coast has such a strong calibre of artists emerging from the city, and events like the GCMA’s became the inspiration to create SPRINGTIME and continue to showcase the music of the region alongside the country’s best,” said Mark.

“To be able to celebrate the scene’s achievements over the weekend with our partners the Gold Coast Music Awards will make for an annual party not to miss.”

About the 2022 Gold Coast Music Awards

The Gold Coast Music Awards ceremony will take place on Saturday 3 September from 12:00pm-3:00pm at HOTA, Home of the Arts.

The Awards are held alongside SPRINGTIME Festival, taking place throughout the Surfers Paradise precinct from 2-4 September.

Award celebrations will also include a Gold Coast Music Awards after-glow party held in the HOTA Lawn Bar, immediately after the Awards ceremony.

All finalists can opt in to participate in the People’s Choice Award, which will open for voting after finalists are announced on Tuesday 26 July.

The Gold Coast Music Awards are proudly supported by City of Gold Coast and presented in partnership with SPRINGTIME Festival.
