The Gold Coast Music Awards (GCMAs), celebrating a milestone 10th anniversary, reveal the first three live acts performing at the prestigious event, to be held at HOTA, Home of the Arts, on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
This year, the star-studded Red Carpet Gala Awards Ceremony and Live Concert will feature phenomenal performances from the 2023 People’s Choice and GC Music Prize winner, Lyric, along with the soulful Felicity Lawless, and the raw rock fury of Black Vatican Death Squad.
Meet the First Three Acts:
LYRIC: 20-year-old Gold Coast singer/songwriter and producer, Lyric, entrances audiences with her relatable lyricism and innovative production quality. Writing songs for as long as she’s been able to pick up a pen, the multi-talented and award-winning songstress has released 13 original tracks – written, produced and mixed entirely by herself.
Lyric’s honest songwriting and penchant for music with meaning has helped her connect with fans, in person and online. In March of 2023, she released her debut EP, ‘every colour, every hue’, which surpassed 230K streams and sold out her debut headline show. She then followed this up with her TikTok-viral singles ‘Wine Stain’ and ‘Gravity’, which have amassed 100k and 270k streams respectively.
Along with her incredible talent for building a genuine connection with fans, Lyric has also received industry recognition, with radio play on triple j Unearthed, wins at the Gold Coast Music Awards, and supporting local megastar Mallrat.
FELICITY LAWLESS: Felicity Lawless stimulates the senses and elevates the soul with music fusing world, rock and folk elements. From deep in the forest, she creates music to heal the world and remind people of their connection to nature. Her sound is characterised by a flashy, Spanish guitar style, soaring vocal melodies and hypnotic rhythms. She performs with an energy that elevates and inspires while infusing her crowds with enthusiasm and joy.
Felicity Lawless is now collaborating with vocalist, clarinetist and sax mistress, MsEleneous who adds flourishes of virtuosic clarinet, saxophone and heart-warming harmonies. In 2023, they released their first combined album ‘Dream of Love’.
Collaborating with Tijuana Cartel guitarist Black Rabbit George, her project has sold out theatres and concert venues across Australia. With five independently released albums, including the 2022 collaboration ‘Symbiosis’ with Paul George, Felicity continues to push the boundaries of musical expression.
BLACK VATICAN DEATH SQUAD: From the depths of the Gold Coast emerges Black Vatican Death Squad, unleashing a raw, unapologetic onslaught of rock ‘n’ roll fury. Fronted by the formidable Diklich, whose gravelly vocals and thundering basslines command attention, and propelled by Tommy Creeper’s relentless drumming, the band’s sound is a force to be reckoned with.
Drawing inspiration from the darkest alleys of rock history, their music exudes a dangerous edge that captivates audiences craving authentic intensity. With a pedigree forged in the fires of bands like Hell & Whiskey, The Wrath and Kill The Apprentice, Black Vatican Death Squad is carving out a reputation as a formidable presence in the Australian music scene. Brace yourself for their electrifying performances and prepare to be swept away by their unyielding charisma.
